Sake is a type of wine made from rice. The Yuzawa–Niigata–Sado area is renowned for its sake, offering a wide variety of brands popular throughout the country. The conditions here for sake production are ideal: high-quality local rice, clear water streaming down from the deep snow accumulations in the mountains, and just the right drop in temperature as winter arrives. The local sake producers also benefit from great brewing techniques developed and handed down from generation to generation. Many breweries are located throughout the area, and there are even opportunities to view sake-making up close. Sake is a great accompaniment to all types of Japanese food. Come and taste for yourself.
